👩‍⚖️ About Me as a Judge

I have been actively involved in cynology and with the Rhodesian Ridgeback breed for more than two decades. I first became acquainted with the breed in 2001, and in 2003 I founded my kennel, LUANDA Rhodesian Ridgebacks.

Many years of breeding experience, studying pedigrees, following the development of individual dogs as well as entire generations, together with my experience in the show ring, gradually led me to judging.

I have been an FCI conformation judge since 2018. I am currently approved to judge seven breeds within FCI Group VI.

Throughout my judging career, I have had the opportunity to judge at international, club and specialty shows in Slovakia and abroad, including the Czech Republic, Germany, Austria, Denmark, France, Croatia, Hungary and Russia.

As a long-time Rhodesian Ridgeback breeder, I naturally began as a specialist in my own breed. Over the years, I have expanded my judging experience to other breeds within FCI Group VI and have already judged Dalmatians, Beagles and Bloodhounds at international and club shows.

I particularly value the opportunity to judge large and well-attended club and specialty shows, where a judge can see a broad spectrum of bloodlines, types and breed populations from different countries.

Over the years, I have had the honour of judging Rhodesian Ridgebacks at important specialty events across Europe, including the World Specialty held in conjunction with the World Dog Show Brno 2021, major E.L.S.A. shows in Germany, the specialty show of the Rhodesian Ridgeback Club de France, club shows in Austria and Denmark, as well as the Rhodesian Ridgeback Club Show in Croatia during the World Dog Show Zagreb 2024 weekend.

In addition to specialty shows, I am also regularly invited to international dog shows, where I judge several breeds within FCI Group VI.

⚖️ My Approach to Judging

When judging, what matters most to me is the overall picture of the dog as a representative of its breed.

I do not view a dog as a collection of individual anatomical details. Both virtues and faults must always be assessed in relation to the whole dog, breed type, overall harmony and the original function of the breed.

For me, the right balance between breed type, correct construction, condition, temperament and functional movement is essential.

I pay particular attention to natural and efficient movement. A dog should move with ease, balance and without unnecessary effort, while maintaining the typical overall picture of its breed.

No dog is perfect. In my opinion, the role of a judge is to correctly assess the significance of individual virtues and faults and, ultimately, to evaluate the quality of the dog as a whole.

I consider every invitation to judge both an honour and a responsibility. I approach every dog in the ring with the same respect, regardless of its titles, owner, kennel or country of origin.

🐾 Breeding and Professional Background

I founded LUANDA Rhodesian Ridgebacks in 2002.

More than two decades of breeding have given me the opportunity to follow entire generations of Rhodesian Ridgebacks – their development from puppyhood to adulthood, health, temperament, construction, movement, pedigrees and the way individual traits are passed on to future generations.

Over the years, dogs bred under the LUANDA prefix have achieved numerous significant results at the highest international level, including:

🏆 Crufts Best of Breed Winner
🏆 World Winner & Junior World Winner
🏆 European Winner & European Junior Winners
🏆 BIS & Multi BISS Winners
🏆 Best in Group Winners
🏆 International, Grand and National Champion titles in many countries

Among the most outstanding achievements is Crufts Best of Breed 2024, won by my home-bred female Just Like a Dream of Luanda – Daisy.

I consider my long-term breeding experience an important part of my perspective as a judge. The opportunity to follow dogs, their siblings, parents and offspring over several generations provides a depth of experience that cannot be gained solely through studying the breed standard or observing a dog for a few minutes in the show ring.

🎓 Professional Cynological Activities

Alongside breeding, showing and judging, I have also been actively involved for many years in professional and educational activities related to the Rhodesian Ridgeback.

Since 2007, I have participated in breed seminars and educational activities and have also contributed articles to international Rhodesian Ridgeback publications.

Together with RNDr. I. Režuchová, PhD., I participated in the development of the electronic ELBREED system, launched in 2020, which introduced digitalisation and significantly simplified breeding-related administration and record keeping.
